About Everyday Christian Fellowship
(From Pastor Corey Webb)

Everyday Christian Fellowship is located in the Schertz/Garden Ridge area, which is one is one of the fastest growing outlying areas of San Antonio.  A five-mile radius of FM 3009 and IH-35 touches three counties and five cities.

Every one of the five cities is expecting new growth. New schools are being built in the area, including a new high school in the Schertz/Cibolo/Universal City School District, Byron P. Steele II High School, which just opened this fall. A representative from Guadalupe County has estimated a growth of twenty thousand people in the next 10 years.

The Vision

While serving at Alamo City Christian Fellowship, the Lord began expanding my burden for more of the whole church and not just one specific area of ministry. After talking to our pastor (Dr. David Walker) about my burden, he then allowed me to begin to oversee other ministries within the church. During that same time, I began feeling like God was preparing me to pastor a church. I did not know exactly when that time would be, but what I did know was that I needed to continue to do the last thing God told me to do, until He clearly told me to do something else.

In September of 2000, the Lord put it very strong in my heart that He was calling me to pastor a church. At that time I was unsure whether or not He was calling our family to an existing church or to begin a new work. We continued to see the Lord and asked our pastor and the other friends in the ministry to pray with us concerning the call the Lord had placed in us.

A short time later, I attended a Blue Bonnet Baptist Association meeting. I did not know what the focus of that meeting was going to be until I attended it that day. It turned out that the whole focus of that meeting was starting new churches. After that meeting, our pastor hooked me up with the Director of Mission for the Association (Dr. J. K. Minton). My pastor began to tell Dr. Minton that he thought it would be a good idea if Dr. Minton and I got together and visited some time because of some of the things that God was doing in my life.

The following week, I visited with Dr. Minton. After talking with him and hearing his heart for the kingdom and his burden for church starts, the Lord began to put it strong in my heart that He was calling us to a new church start. At that time we did not know for sure if that meant leaving the San Antonio area, or if it meant staying in this area. Dr. Minton mentioned to me several places that needed new church starts. Several of them I was already aware of, but one of them was an area that we had not thought about, and that was the Schertz, Garden Ridge area. That is the area that Bonnie and I call home and it is where we both grew up. We began to pray and seek the Lord's perfect will for our lives. We desired to offer ourselves up to the Lord as living sacrifices as it say in Romans 12:1-2, and by doing that we would be able to know His perfect will for our lives.

After praying through all that I had learned, I felt that there were two specific places that we were to really seek the Lord about going to. One of those was the San Marcos area and the other was the Schertz/Garden Ridge area. During this same time, my Mom reminded me of a dream I had years ago, before I was hired on staff at Alamo City, about starting a church in the Schertz area sometime in the future.

On several occasions in the fall of 2000, our family drove to San Marcos and the Schertz/Garden Ridge area visiting with people in the community and praying there together as a family, asking God to reveal to us His perfect plan for us. Every time we visited the Schertz/Garden Ridge area, there was a strong sense that that was the area the Lord was calling us to.

On October 6th, I drove to FM 3009 and IH35N, parked my car, and walked down the side road towards Weiderstein Road. It was a cloudy morning and there was a chance of rain. As I walked, I began to pray, claiming the land for the Lord and asking Him to reveal His plan to me concerning that area. I noticed a sign that said "Seventy-Six Acres for Sale". I felt the Lord saying for me to cross over the fence onto that land that was for sale. As soon as I did, a large deer ran out in front of me and it was there that the Lord revealed to me that He was not going to have let me see that sign of life, the deer, until I had crossed over the fence. I continued to see more "signs of life" on that land; armadillo nests, birds, crickets, plants and trees. I saw a place where the deer had laid down to rest, and it was if the Lord was saying, "This is a place of refuge, a safe place."

As I walked and prayed, I picked up 12 small rocks and one larger rock. The 12 small rocks I would give out to people to serve as a reminder to pray for God's will concerning a future church in that area. I believe the Lord told me that I was not to leave that land until it rained. I continued to walk on the land and listen. As I held those rocks in my hands, I heard it thunder and then saw drops of water hit those rocks that I was holding in my hands. It was a fresh sight. It was there that I heard the Lord saying to me that He desired to rain on the hearts of the people across that area. To see them receive His love and forgiveness of their sins, heal their hearts and see them grow. It then began to pour. It was and incredible experience. I was reminded of the prayer time Bonnie and I had had that morning before I left. She prayed that wherever I went, the Lord would rain as a sign of where the Lord was taking us. I believe that was a sign from the kingdom of heaven. It's His land and He wants to be glorified on it. I was reminded of the Promised Land in the book of Numbers. To walk in the Promised Land God has for you requires faith. We can't do it on our own. We must depend on God and believe His promises, as Caleb and Joshua did in Numbers 13-14.

The Lord taught me a personal life lesson there that day. The lesson was that God was calling me out to cross over the fence and take a step of faith. He said I would have to trust Him, even though I didn't know the details on where we would be going, but that I should listen to His voice and obey Him. It was as though He was asking me, "What are you believing me for? Are you believing me for the unbelievable?" Several weeks after that time, the Lord made it strong in my heart that it was that Schertz/Garden Ridge area that He was calling us to begin a new work. As I looked out across empty fields that are soon to be subdivisions, where once there had been hay harvested, and cattle born and raised, there now were to be souls harvested for the Glory of God.

The Call

We began a home Bible Study in January, 2001 out in the Schertz/Garden Ridge area and began to share the vision and strategy for what God was calling us to do. Our heart's desire is to glorify God's name everyday through bringing people to Jesus and fellowship in his family, developing them to Christ-like maturity and equipping them for their ministry in the church and life mission in the world. Matthew 22:37-39; Matthew 28:19-20; Acts 2:42-47.

Our first Sunday morning service was on April 15th, 2001, Easter Sunday. At that time, we had chosen to meet in the meeting room of the Atrium Inn, which is located on the southbound side of IH35 and FM3009. We now meet at our church campus on the corner of Main St. and Borgfeld in Cibolo.

The Goal

It is our desire to be a friendly, cross-cultural, regional church that would touch lives in every direction, connecting everyday people to God and others through listening to the heart of God and the needs of others every day.

We desire Everyday Christian Fellowship to be a place where you can fit, regardless of the size of your bank account, the type of car you drive, the job title you hold, your past, or the cultural background you come from, etc. We are praying that God would give us a spirit of unity and power, just like the first century church (Acts 2:42-47).

May the Lord bless you and your family,

His and Yours,

Corey, Bonnie, Meagan, Kayla, and Adriana Webb
